Micheál Ó Dálaigh first started learning music at the age of 11 but his journey with The Handpan Instrument started after attending a five day Shamanic Retreat in 2018 where he heard one live for the first time.
Falling in love with its sound there and then, it reminded him of the Harp or the native American Wooden Flute, relaxing, mesmerising and therapeutic but new and unheard of.
The following year Micheál acquired one and never looked back, he started busking with it in Derry during the lockdowns when people were not getting out to live music events, the public responded with such appreciation it had him in awe.
Micheál was then approached by an employee from Belfast Live whilst busking for a live video for their Facebook page. The video was a hit, attracting over 100’000 views and 1000s of interactions. Micheál knew then that his music had a platform to be heard and would be enjoyed by many, and the rest they say is history.
