Narratives An Exhibition by Eamon McAteer
“I am a painter of feelings and experienced events.” – Eamon McAteer
In Narratives, local artist Eamon McAteer invites us into a deeply personal and emotionally resonant body of work. Rooted in the Irish expressionist landscape tradition, these paintings explore memory, emotion, and the quiet intensity of lived experience.
McAteer describes his process as intuitive and honest, driven by a desire to express what cannot be said in words. His work draws inspiration from light, landscape, and emotional memory – often using gestural brushwork, rich colour, and layered textures to create a sense of intimacy and poetic resonance.
“The painting develops a pure entity which starts to make its own demands – in a sense, it looks back at me.”
Often working in oils and acrylics, McAteer manipulates the canvas by rubbing, scratching, and building paint to evoke a "remembered reality" – creating moments that feel both familiar and mysterious.
As part of the NI Mental Health Arts Festival, this exhibition offers space for reflection on the inner world — reminding us of art’s power to explore, heal, and connect.
